Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic mental health disorder that involves obsessions, compulsions, or both.
An individual living with OCD experience obsessions, or repetitive unwanted thoughts that shows an extreme urge to repeat a specific behaviour.
Causes of OCD
Researchers don’t know exactly what causes OCD, but a family history condition may play a large part. If you have a close family relative with OCD, you have a higher chance of also having the OCD.
Irregular development and impairment in certain brain areas have also been linked to the condition.
Symptoms of OCD
The main symptoms of OCD are obsessions and compulsions that interrupt with normal work. You may know that these symptoms are not good, but you can’t stop them. Symptoms of OCD may come and go, ease over time or worsen over time.
OCD Prevention
You can’t prevent OCD fully. But early diagnosis and treatment can help reduce its symptoms and its effects on your life.
