Anxiety is a feeling of fear about what’s to come and your body’s natural response to stress or tension. For example, going to a job interview or going to university for the first time may cause some individual to feel fearful.
But if feelings of anxietyare vast, last for at least 6 months, and are interfering with life, you may have an anxiety disorder.
Types of Anxiety Disorder
Anxiety is a crucial part of several different disorders. These include:
- Panic disorder. This refers to recurring panic attacks at unexpected times.
- Phobia. This refers to an excessive fear.
- Social anxiety disorder. This is an extreme fear of being judged by other individual in social situations or conditions.
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder. This is recurring irrational thoughts that lead you to specific, repeated behaviors.
- Separation anxiety disorder. This is a fear of being away from home or your loved ones.
- Illness anxiety disorder. This is anxiety about your health issues (formerly called hypochondria).
Causes of Anxiety
Healthcare professional aren’t sure of the exact cause of anxiety. The causes of anxiety:
- stress
- other medical problems such as depression or diabetes
- first degree relatives with generalized anxiety disorder
- environmental concerns, such as child abuse
- substance use
